Schalom im umfassenden Sinn
Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, liebe Mitglieder, Freundinnen und Freunde des Pädagogisch-Kulturellen Centrums Ehemalige Synagoge Freudental, dear friends of the PKC, please find the English version below!
Mit großer Anteilnahme verfolgen wir die Nachrichten aus Israel und dem Nahen Osten. Nach dem grausamen und gewalttätigen Überfall durch die Hamas am letzten Tag von Sukkot – einem Fest, welches an Gottes Schutz auf der 40-jährigen Reise durch die Wüste erinnert – hat ein Krieg begonnen. Zu dieser Zeit waren noch deutsch-israelische Austauschgruppen im Landkreis Ludwigsburg und im PKC zu Besuch – eine absolute Ausnahmesituation.
Die Nachrichten aus dem Oberen Galiläa, von wo viele Familien in die Landesmitte geflohen sind, bestürzen uns. Wir halten Kontakt, wir denken an die Freundinnen und Freunde, wir zeigen uns solidarisch, denn wir spüren unsere besondere Verantwortung angesichts des unfassbaren Leids unzähliger Menschen – auf beiden Seiten des Konflikts!
Hier in Deutschland zeigt sich nun vermehrt Judenhass. Wir setzen uns dafür ein, dass keine Person aufgrund ihrer Religion, ihres Geschlechts und ihrer politischen Weltanschauung diskriminiert wird. Die freie Meinungsäußerung hat jedoch dort ihre Grenze, wo sie andere verletzt und klein macht. Wir glauben, dass unser Schwerpunkt, mit Bildung gegen Antisemitismus zu wirken, gerade in dieser Situation richtig und wichtig ist.
„Schalom“ zu üben in dem großen und umfassenden Sinn von Gesundheit, Wohlfahrt, Frieden (als Gegenteil von Krieg), Ruhe und Glück – so wie das Wort auch in der Tora verwendet wird – diese Bemühung fängt bei uns selbst an. Gleichzeitig wünschen wir Israel und Palästina, aber auch allen anderen Ländern, in denen Krieg herrscht, tapfere und weise Menschen, die wieder ein friedliches Zusammenleben anregen!

Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear members and friends of the Pedagogical-Cultural Center Former Synagogue Freudental,
With great concern, we follow the news from Israel and the Middle East. After the cruel and violent attack by Hamas on the last day of Sukkot – a festival that commemorates God’s protection during the 40-year journey through the desert – a war has begun. At that time, German-Israeli exchange groups were still visiting the Ludwigsburg district and the PKC – an exceptional situation.
The news from Upper Galilee, where many families have fled to the central part of the country, deeply saddens us. We maintain contact, think of our friends, and show solidarity because we feel our special responsibility in the face of the unimaginable suffering of countless people on both sides of the conflict!
In Germany, anti-Semitism is now on the rise. We advocate for no person to be discriminated based on their religion, gender, or political beliefs. Freedom of expression has its limits where it harms and belittles others. We believe that our focus on combating anti-Semitism through education is particularly relevant and important in this situation.
Practicing „Shalom“ in the broad and comprehensive sense of health, welfare, peace (as the opposite to war), tranquility, and happiness – as the word is used in the Torah – begins with ourselves. At the same time, we wish Israel and Palestine, as well as all other countries experiencing war, courageous and wise individuals who can promote peaceful coexistence!
